CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (WOIO) - After a year-long hiatus because of the pandemic, the Cleveland Orchestra announced it’s returning to Blossom Music Center for ten weeks of performances this summer.
“Notwithstanding the few guests who attended some of our recording sessions these past few weeks, it has been more than a year since The Cleveland Orchestra played concerts for a live audience, and we’re eagerly looking forward to performing for music lovers across Northeast Ohio this summer,” André Gremillet, President and CEO of The Cleveland Orchestra, said.

The Riga Jurmula Festival announces a new documentary
The Riga Jurmala Music Festival has announced the commissioning of a documentary dedicated to honouring the great Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons (1943-2019), due for broadcast in early 2022. Mariss Jansons: A Tale of Four Orchestras will be directed and conceived by Peter Maniura, the
Gramophone Award-winning television producer and director with more than 25 years’ experience in music and arts broadcasting at the BBC, the European Broadcasting Union and independently. Watch a preview here:
The Jansons story will be told through the eyes of the musicians from the four ensembles of which Jansons was either Music Director or Chief Conductor: the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Ravinia canceled its 2020 season because of the coronavirus pandemic and closed the park for what organizers said was the first time since the Great Depression.
Haydon noted this summer s Ravinia experience will be a little different than in the past, but our science-based approach to carefully reopening the park puts safeguards in place so that audiences can again enjoy live performances.”
All concerts will take place outside in the open-air pavilion and offer a reduced capacity. Tickets must be reserved in advance, and distanced seating will be used throughout the facility. Organizers noted the number of performers on stage also will be reduced to promote social distancing.
