No charges will be filed against the U.S. Marshal who shot and killed Frankie Jennings at a gas station on The Plaza in March, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney Spencer Merriweather III.
Merriweather also claimed that Senior Inspector Eric Tillman feared for his life when he shot Jennings.
Authorities were attempting to serve 16 outstanding warrants on Jennings, according to the report.
Officials say Jennings was accused of assaulting police officers at Carolina Beach the day before the shooting by dragging the officers from his vehicle.
The outstanding warrants were for the charges related to the Carolina Beach incident, two warrants for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, assault on a female, charges related to an incident in which Jennings was accused of shooting into a vehicle, and several other minor warrants, according to the report.
After last year's protests over the killing of George Floyd, several cities reduced the amount of money budgeted for the police. The Charlotte City Council next week is likely to vote on a budget that does the opposite giving Charlotte-Mecklenburg police more money.

It is with a heavy heart that the Great Barrington Fire Department announces the passing of retired Fire Chief Harry Jennings.
In a social media post the south county department celebrated Harry Jennings after he succumbed to a long 10 year battle with cancer. Chief Jennings was officially Chief of the department from 2001 until 2012, although he was considered a leader for much longer than that.
According to the post, Jennings was about as progressive as they come in regard to the fire service, having a large part in the building of the State Road station using his knowledge to anticipate both was the present and future needs of the department and putting that into the design and construction. Harry was determined to make sure that the station was going to serve the town for well over the next 100 years.
