NZ police issue further appeal over central Auckland shooting incident

Statement attributable to Detective Inspector John Sutton: Police are continuing to appeal for sightings of Hone Reihana, who is actively being sought by Police in relation to a firearms incident at the Sofitel hotel in Auckland earlier this month. Reihana, aged 27, also uses the name Hone Hawira and is a patched Head Hunter gang member. He is considered dangerous and should not be approached by the public. Police are also seeking Olivia Brodie, 25, who has a warrant to arrest for breaching bail in relation to an unrelated fraud matter. Police believe Olivia Brodie is with Hone Reihana and Police have concerns for her safety and wellbeing.

Police advised the public not to approach Reihana as he is considered dangerous. Officers put out an appeal to find him on April 23 in relation to a shooting at Auckland upmarket Sofitel hotel on April 15. The incident is believed to have been gang related, with witnesses describing hearing shots fired and armed police attending the scene. The shooting resulted in a city-wide response, leaving an east Auckland street and a street in Ōrākei cordoned off shortly after the incident. No injures were reported. Police Minister Poto Williams said the incident stemmed from conflict between the Mongols and Head Hunters gangs.
