Picture: FIJIAN GOVERNMENT Fiji has enough consumables for COVID-19 tests, says Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong. The ministry’s Head of Health Protection, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan, said Fiji carried out two types of testing: the real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test which was carried out at the Fiji Centre for Disease Control is one of them. She said the testing was a conventional one and was introduced in Fiji in March last year.

36 active cases of COVID-19 in isolation as 3 more people recover – Dr Sahukhan 36 active cases of COVID-19 in isolation as 3 more people recover – Dr Sahukhan Three more people have recovered from COVID-19. The Head of Health Protection, Dr. Aalisha Sahukhan says there are 36 active cases in isolation of which 23 are locally transmitted cases, 7 are border quarantine cases while 6 cases are under investigation. Dr.Sahukhan says the recently deceased case and a recovered case are still under investigation to ascertain the source of transmission. She further says cases under investigation are still considered community transmission until proven otherwise. Since last year, Fiji has recorded 140 cases of COVID-19 with 101 recoveries and 3 deaths.

Fiji reports three new covid cases – two patients recover

“All three have been in isolation since yesterday,” he said. “The contact tracers are locating and quarantining their close contacts. All other known primary contacts relating to the three have tested negative.” Meanwhile, the ministry’s Head of Health Protection, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan, confirmed this evening that two patients had recovered. Fiji now has 38 active covid-19 cases in isolation facilities, seven are border quarantine cases, 26 locally transmitted cases and five are currently being investigated to determine the source of transmission. Head of Health Protection, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan during the daily press briefing this evening said with the seven recoveries Fiji now has 44 active cases which are currently being admitted in isolation units. As to whether these cases were border quarantine or locally transmitted Dr Sahukhan said she will reveal more details tomorrow.
