Union Minister Pralhad Joshi during his visit to KIMS Hospital premises on Thursday to oversee the work on a make-shift COVID hospital.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi has said that in consultation with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Military Hospitals in the State would be converted into COVID-19 hospitals.
Speaking to presspersons after reviewing the progress of the 66-bed COVID Casualty Makeshift Ward on KIMS Hospital premises in Hubballi on Thursday, Mr. Joshi said that he had written to Mr. Rajnath Singh on the need for constructing make-shift COVID wards at various places in the State, including Bengaluru, through DRDO and other defence agencies.

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil has issued show-cause notice to three hospitals in Dharwad district for not adhering to the government’s direction on earmarking 50% of beds in private hospitals and for giving wrong information on COVID-19 patients.
According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissioner, in a meeting on April 15, all private hospitals in the district had been asked to earmark 50% of beds for treatment of COVID-19 patients. However, three hospitals of Hubballi, Shakuntala Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Hubballi Super Specialty Hospital and Tatwadarsha Hospital, had violated the government order, he said.

Emphasising the need to make preparations in advance to face the second wave, Minister for Large and Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar has asked officials to get 2,000 beds with oxygen facility ready in the district.
Speaking to presspersons after holding a COVID-19 review meeting with district-level officials at KIMS administrative block in Hubballi on Friday, Mr. Shettar said that as a precautionary measure, 1,000 beds with oxygen facility would be kept ready at KIMS Hospital in Hubballi, 500 beds in SDM Hospital in Dharwad and another 500 beds in other private hospitals.
