REUTERS/Baz Ratner Around 40 percent of wheat flour and almost 60 percent of maize flour consumed in Kenya is not consistently fortified and thus does not comply with the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) standards exposing Kenyan to major health risks. The continuous sale of unfortified flour on the Kenyan market has direct implications for the government’s food fortification and safety agenda, as embedded in the Kenya National Food Fortification Programme.

District-level advisory panel for food safety reconstituted

Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani reconstituted the district level advisory committee for food safety recently. The committee with the Collector as its chairperson has the Deputy Director of Health Services as the vice-chairperson and the designated officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as the secretary. Officials, including Coimbatore District (Rural) Superintendent of Police, District Agriculture Officer, District Supply Officer and District Education Officer have been appointed as its members. According to a release issued by the FSSAI, the main function of the committee is to monitor and ensure enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards Act in the district.

4 dead, 2 injured in West Delhi factory roof collapse Agencies December 19, 2020 New Delhi, Dec 19: Four people died and two were injured in a factory roof collapse on Saturday morning in West Delhi s Khyala Village. The incident happened at around 10 a.m. in Vishnu garden of Khyala in a factory of motor winding where at least six people were inside. The injured were rescued by the police staff, ambulance staff, DDMA staff and were sent to the nearest hospital. Out of six, four were declared dead by the doctors while two were out of danger, said Additional DCP West Delhi Subodh Kumar Goswami.
