Palace expects $4B in mining investments after ban lifted

Duterte lifted last week the nine-year moratorium on new mineral agreements. If the projects of Sagittarius Mines, Inc., KingKing Mining Corp., and Silangan Mindanao Mining Co., Inc. “are any indication, we are looking at over $4 billion in capital expenditure,” Presidential Spokesperson Herminio “Harry” L. Roque, Jr. told BusinessWorld in a Viber message. Mr. Duterte on April 14 signed Executive Order (EO) No. 130, which allows the government to enter into new mineral agreements and review existing mining deals for possible renegotiation.

  PASIG CITY, April 15 (PIA)  The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Cirilito Sobejana was officially donned his four-star rank insignia on Wednesday, making him the highest-ranking military officer.  “While these stars firmly resting on my shoulders are a testament to my personal achievements, it is still a strong reminder to everyone that should never be conscious of their positions but should remain humble and thankful, and to always exercise due prudence and diligence in the discharge of their respective duties and responsibilities,” General Sobejana said. The donning of rank ceremony was presided by the Department of National Defense (DND) Undersecretary Cesar Yano at the DND Building in Camp Aguinaldo on behalf of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

AFP chief Sobejana now a four-star general

By HANA BORDEY, GMA News Published April 14, 2021 7:03pm The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Cirilito Sobejana  officially received his fourth star on Wednesday, three weeks after the confirmation of his nomination to the rank of general. The ceremony was led by Defense Undersecretary Cesar Yano on behalf Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who is in isolation due to COVID-19 at the Department of National Defense’s building in Camp Aguinaldo. Sobejana received the traditional military honors given to all appointed AFP chiefs. It was attended by Sobejana’s family and the chiefs of the Joint, Personal, and Special Staff of the AFP.
