The Nifty index traded tad below its 14,500 mark. Barring the Nifty Pharma index, all the sectoral indices on the NSE were in the green.
The benchmark indices ended with strong gains on Monday, tracking positive global cues. The Nifty closed near the crucial 14,500 mark after trading above that level for most part of the day. Barring the Nifty Pharma index, all sectoral indices on the NSE ended in the green.
As per the provisional closing data, the S&P BSE Sensex, soared 508.06 points or 1.06% at 48,386.66. The Nifty 50 index gained 143.65 points or 1% at 14,485.70.
Axis Bank (up 4.19%), JSW Steel (up 3.4%), UltraTech Cement (up 3.33%), Grasim (up 3.28%) and Reliance Industries (up 1.77%) boosted the indices.
The broader market lagged the benchmarks. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.6% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.88%.
