White Star ISLAMABAD: Environmentally hazardous practices in the Margalla Hills National Park (MNHP), including smoking, BBQ-ing and littering, have been outlawed in order to protect the diverse wildlife area. According to a fresh notification, the capital police will now assist the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) in enforcing the environmental laws. “The police will now patrol the park along with the wildlife staff and fine visitors for littering,” said IWMB Chairperson Rina Saeed Khan. Cutting of trees and encroachment has also been banned, the notification said, adding: “Violators can be arrested for a month and a fine can be imposed through a summary trial. Act as responsible citizens by following law.”

IWMB launches cleanup drive on Margalla Hills - Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has initiated a nine-day-long volunteer cleanup campaign in Margalla Hills National Park to lift waste dumped by irresponsible visitors and tourists in the natural environment. The IWMB took the decision after public negligent behaviour and littering increased in the national park that was highly detrimental to scenic and one of the exotic biodiversity. An official said the IWMB first started registering volunteers to expedite stakeholder intervention to address the littering issue, adding 400 volunteers had been registered for the “My waste my responsibility” drive. “The campaign will continue till May 16 and the public must play their role to protect the park from littering,” he added.
