PIMS withdraws all services; VIP patients be turned down too Islamabad January 14, 2021 Islamabad : No VIP patients will be treated at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) with effect from today (Thursday). All services, except those involving extreme emergency and Covid-19 case management, will also stand withdrawn. No further negotiations will be held with the government. The withdrawal of the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance is now the only way forward. The above decisions were taken Wednesday at the executive council meeting of the Federal Grand Health Alliances (FGHA), which finds itself constrained to take drastic measures in the wake of the government’s inability to offer a practical and mutually agreeable formula for revision of a legislation that robs PIMS employees of their civil servant status and rights, monetizes medical treatment while virtually privatizing the hospital.

Consultants, professors join PIMS protest against MTI Islamabad December 27, 2020 Islamabad : A large number of consultants and professors working at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) joined the ongoing strike for withdrawal of the Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Ordinance on the 28th day of the protest here at PIMS on Saturday. The upper tier of the medial fraternity formed of a five-member action committee that will engage with the government in case it decides to negotiate with the protesters. Earlier on, faculty members and consultants convened a meeting wherein they expressed strong reservations on implementation of the MTI Ordinance. An action committee was hence formed with Prof. Hashim Raza, Prof. S. H. Waqar, Prof. Imran Sikandar, Prof. Aatif Shami, and Dr. Aneeza Jalil as members. The committee vowed not to accept MTI at any cost.

PIMS employees finally get some response from government Islamabad December 15, 2020 Islamabad: The government established contact with employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Saturday as the protest against the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance continued on the 16th day, with the participation of representatives of 22 government organizations. The leadership of the Federal Grand Health Alliance was called for a meeting in the office of the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on CDA Affairs Ai Nawaz Awan, where the concerns of PIMS employees were tabled for a discussion. Ali Nawaz assured the team that he would establish contact with the PM’s Special Advisor on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan for resolution of the crisis. The FGHA will now have a meeting with Dr. Faisal today (Tuesday).
