VOLUNTEERS contributing to the Citizens Advice service have been thanked for their service. Citizens Advice Carlisle & Eden has continued giving advice to those in need throughout the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to the tireless dedication of staff and volunteers. The team rallied to ensure as many people as possible could be helped as services saw unprecedented demand. Often this has meant a shift to providing support via phone and web chat. As part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1 to 7 June, Citizens Advice Carlisle & Eden wants to thank volunteers for their exceptional contribution to the service and local community. 45 volunteers at CACE contribute 280 hours each week. This year, CACE has helped 4939 people with over 15,000 problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues.

Charity says thank-you
The theme of this year’s volunteers’ week (June 1-7) is ‘time to say thanks’ and I’d like to extend my gratitude on behalf of EACH to our dedicated supporters, without whom we couldn’t function.
The last year has been a difficult time, our volunteers have been stood down for many months, but as we emerge from lockdown their support has never been more important.
Understandably some of our volunteers have been unable to return and we’re looking for new people to join us.

Heartfelt thank you to volunteers
A message from Newham Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz and chief executive Althea Loderick to celebrate national Volunteers Week:
A heartfelt thank you to Newham’s volunteer army.
As we entered the 2020s, none of us could have imagined what was to hit us in the first two years of the decade in the shape of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tragically, Newham was among the hardest hit areas of the country as the first wave of the virus swept in last year.
