AUSTIN, TX Austin police have arrested a second suspect linked to the April shooting death of Kedarius Griffin in North Austin.
Cornelius Tyrone Jr Cooks, 22, was arrested Tuesday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in connection to the April 14th homicide at 9414 N. Lamar Boulevard, authorities said Wednesday.
Cook was arrested without incident in the 2900 block of West Anderson Lane. He faces a first-degree felony murder charge with a $300,000 bond. As of Thursday, Cooks was still booked in Travis County Jail.
Austin Man Arrested for Simulating Shooting at Police
AUSTIN,TX – Zion Baptiste was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after pretending to shoot police officers with a handgun in Austin.
Law enforcement says two officers were flagged down for an unrelated incident when Baptiste drove up and pulled out a semi-automatic handgun, pointing it at the officers and moving his arms up and down to simulate shooting the police.
Even though the police officers were facing the other way at the time, witnesses told them what had occurred. In fact, Baptiste’s actions were recorded and the video has been released by the Austin Police Department.
An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday and is accused of fatally shooting a teen over the weekend in North Austin, according to Austin police.
Austin police on Sunday afternoon were notified of a person who had been shot in the parking lot of a mobile home park located just north of the intersection of U.S. 183 and Lamar Boulevard, according to authorities.
Officers who responded to the call found Juan Carlos Cruz, and despite life saving measures made by Austin-Travis County medics, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene around 5:50 p.m. later that same day, police said.
Police said people who saw the shooting reported that Gregorio Vences-Benitez left the scene of the crime before officers arrived. On Tuesday, Vences-Benitez was arrested by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force, and is facing a first-degree murder charge, police said, adding that his bail is $500,000.

On Tuesday, April 6, at approximately 12:26 a.m., Austin 911 says it received a call about a male subject that had been shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex located at 7330 Bluff Springs Rd.
Austin-Travis County EMS and APD officers arrived on the scene. Despite life savings efforts, police say the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 12:49 a.m.
