RBI Reiterates It Has Not Issued Any Instructions To Link Existing Bank Accounts to Aadhaar

Once again, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that it has not issued any instructions for linking the existing bank accounts with Aadhaar. This was in response to an application filed by the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to check the veracity of a statement by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman about linking the existing bank accounts with Aadhaar by March 2021. In 2017 too, RBI had denied having issued any instruction for mandatory linking of Aadhaar number with bank accounts. (
