Two men arrested for trying to steal a goat | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Two people were caught red-handed while attempting to steal a goat from MGR Nagar at Machampalayam in the city on Wednesday. The arrested people were identified as K Deepak, 26, of Edayarpalayam on Thadagam Road and R Eswaran, 36, of Sivananda Colony in the city. “Amirtham, wife of Rajagopal from Karuveppilai Thottam area at MGR Nagar, who owns several goats, had tied them in the shed in front of her house. Deepak and Eswaran reached there on Wednesday afternoon in a multi-purpose vehicle and tried to steal a goat. However, Amirtham’s neighbours noticed them and raised an alarm and people rushed to the place to catch the duo. They roughed them up before handing them over to the Kuniyamuthur police,” a police officer said.

The police force across Coimbatore city and rural was asked to maintain composure while dealing with people, including motorists, during the curfew between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. In Coimbatore city, around 400 police personnel were deployed, and City Police Commissioner S. Davidson Devasirvatham instructed them to enforce the curfew in a polite manner. Personnel on curfew duty were also advised to use body-worn cameras depending on the availability.
