The Coalition of CSOs Against Corruption has, in a statement concerning the “forced retirement” of Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo, said the incident “is an affront to good governance and the fight against corruption”.
The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Against Corruption said it has taken note of a letter dated March 3, 2021, issued by the Office of the President, retiring the Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo.
“This letter comes barely a day after Auditor-General Domelevo returned to his post from another unconstitutional directive that forced him to proceed on ‘accumulated leave’ of 167 days”, the statement noted.
The Coalition said it is “is extremely disappointed about this development, especially the manner in which the matter has been handled by the Presidency, acting in concert with the Chairman of the Audit Service Board, Prof. Edward Dua Agyemang”.

A fellow at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare says the directive by President Akufo-Addo to former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo to go on retirement, is one that taints his legacy even before he ends his second and final term as president.
According to Professor Asare, most of the Civil Society groups in the country are unhappy with the president’s directive because “the action is unconstitutional and unusual.”
He said the President’s directive came as a shock to him because growing up, he saw in the President; then a human right activist, someone who was always going to “defend the rule of law and the constitution”.
Former President John Mahama has described as an ldquo;abhorrent nation-wrecking prejudice rdquo;, the ldquo;crude rdquo; branding of forcefully-retired Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo as a Togolese by the Audit Service Board.
