The event that started a year ago just completed cruise number 12 and has seen a rapid swell of interest and attendance, coupled with some exceptional SoCal weather. HOT ROD caught up with a two of the event s co-founders, Jason Scudellari and Heck Valdez, for a quick chat about this crazy year. Quarantine Cruise Five Huntington Beach California Replay Video

Lockdown SoCal Cruise Draws Hundreds of Hot Rods!

Lockdown SoCal Cruise Draws Hundreds of Hot Rods! - Gallery Steven Rupp POL s eighth cruise through Southern California was bigger and better than ever! Late in 2020 the gearheads over at Performance Online (POL) started to get California cabin fever from the ongoing quarantine lockdown there. Even worse, they were dying to drive their cars that had been idle during the ruined car event season. So, they came up with an idea for putting on a SoCal cruise. © Hot Rod Network Staff Last month they hosted their eighth such cruise through the winding canyon roads of Laguna Hills, California, and the weather was epic. These cruises typically start at POL s headquarters in the Inland Empire, and this time they decided heading towards the coast is never a bad deal. Each month the cruise has been growing in size, and this one looked to be fast approaching 500 cars. As the weather warms, we expect this number to only grow.

Big Blocks and Burnt Wrecks in SoCal Junkyard!

Big Blocks and Burnt Wrecks in SoCal Junkyard! John McGann © Hot Rod Network Staff 001-monrovia-pick-your-part For this junkyard walkaround, I decided to venture over to the Pick Your Part in Monrovia, California, about 35 miles north of my usual haunt, the PYP in Wilmington. It s good to mix things up from time to time, and the change of locations netted some interesting finds. Here are a few in no particular order. © Hot Rod Network Staff Let s start with a Garrett turbocharger from a mid- 90s Ford F350 with the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel engine. Not being a diesel guy, some Ford truck forum indicates that this is a TP38 that came standard on 1994-1997 Powerstroke engines.

Slammed 1950 Chevy Thriftmaster Tow Truck

Slammed 1950 Chevy Thriftmaster Tow Truck Rodney Rotten Bauman A Third Generation Towing Pro Turned A Company Hauler Into This Pavement Scraping Show Truck In Riverside, California, third-generation towing professional Sonny Ayala is also renowned around town as a hands-on builder of high-end custom cars. As a tortured type of perfectionist, he s been known to tear down his own show-quality work back to bare bones, as he s raised his own bar numerous times. His 1939 Chevrolet Master DeLuxe sedan makes a good example. Each time Sonny builds it, he knocks it further out of the park. Social Distance Shop Tour: Jason Scudellari and his 1949 Chevy Pickup

Rear Suspension For Early Hot Rods

Rear Suspension For Early Hot Rods Kevin Elliott © Hot Rod Network Staff 001-hot-rod-rear-suspension Explaining Ladder Bars, Four-Bars, Leaf Springs, and More and Choosing the Best Set-Up For Your Tradtional Hot Rod Rear suspension technology has come a long way, but for many hot rodders with a taste for traditional style, the old ways are the way to go. At one time, pretty much the only modification hot rodders made to their rear suspension was to add longer shackles to lower the rear on a transverse leaf-sprung Ford, or throw a set of lowering blocks between the axle and leaf springs on a Chevy or other car with parallel springs.
