NASHVILLE Pekka Rinne took a lap around the ice as teammates watched, tapping their sticks against the boards. The Nashville Predators surrounded their 38-year-old goalie for a group hug, and he was the last to leave the ice.
If this was his final start in Nashville, Rinne made it a night to remember in an otherwise meaningless game.

Hockey is a sport that is entrenched in superstitions.
The most well known is the usual refusal to touch the Prince of Wales Trophy or the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after winning either conference, but the myriad of pre-game rituals from what the athletes eat, to how they prepare, how equipment is put on, etc. shows just how serious these athletes take these actions.
But beyond the players, even fans get wrapped up in their own superstitions and one that has certainly done the rounds is an apparent curse involving the President’s Trophy.

WASHINGTON The NHL is relaxing virus protocols for teams that reach a threshold for vaccination, just in time for the playoffs.
The changes are outlined in a memo viewed by The Associated Press that the league sent to teams and players Friday night. The new protocols take hold once 85% or more of the traveling party has been fully vaccinated. For a team with 56 members in its traveling party, 48 would need to be fully vaccinated.

On Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed that the team will receive its first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Sunday. The news follows an earlier announcement by the NHL that the league is changing some of its protocols for fully vaccinated teams.(Dan Hamilton/USA Today Sports)
