Letter: Lauretti budget a desperate plea to remain in power

To the Editor:
For those of you who may have missed it, Mayor Mark Lauretti s annual budget presentation was particularly difficult to listen to this year. For the majority of the 12-minute presentation, it felt like an April fools joke gone awry with the audience and our city almost waiting for a punchline that never came.
On the surface it was disconcerting because the mayor mentioned both rape, a reference to an alleged assault by one of our own volunteer firefighters, and some kind of socialist agenda. What was notably missing was talk of how things are going to improve for our city as our world is poised to emerge from the global coronavirus pandemic.

This year’s class of high school seniors will have a chance to participate in the traditional proms and graduations, although with a twist in most cases.
Last year, many proms were canceled and graduations delayed as the coronavirus pandemic entered the U.S. just months before the end of the school year, the traditional time the events usually take place.

I have this really bad personality defect. Well, there are many, but this one’s so obvious I probably should do something about it. Counseling. Reprogramming. Mortification.
It troubles my family members and friends because I keep what was known in the olden days as “bad company.”
You see, I consort with liberals and conservatives . even though it’s not always easy and nowadays it’s practically verboten. Quite honestly, it would be easier to pick a side and just delete half of my address book, but I can’t do that because you never know when I might need some good legal advice from my liberal lawyer or a good colonoscopy from my conservative gastroenterologist.
