In Glasgow shops are opening up for donations in Stockwell Street, the Botanics and in Paisley the charity shop will open on the High Street. All other Scottish shops will be accepting donations from April 21 when the teams return to work. Bosses have confirmed the two units will reopen in accordance with the Scottish Government advice. The stores had been closed for more than three months to the coronavirus lockdown. Now, staff are getting ready to open up the two city branches on Stockwell Street and Great Western Road from April 12. Alison Watson, Director of Shelter Scotland, said: “Like so many other charities, the pandemic has been tough on our fundraising efforts, so we are delighted to announce today that some of our much-loved shops will be opening up next week in order to receive donations from the public. “The hope is that people will have spent a least a little time during lockdown doing something of a spring clean and they may have a bag or two of unwanted items that we’d love for them to donate to us.

Affordable housing pledge broken as SNP target falling short by 10,000 and number of children in temporary homes soars
SCOTLAND is missing its targets for providing affordable housing to buy and rent by 10,000, as the number of children in temporary accommodation has soared. The First Minister gave a key pre-election pledge before the last Scottish Parliament ballot to deliver at least 50,000 affordable homes over five years, including 35,000 homes for social rent by 2021 as it sought to tackle a housing crisis. But annual official data seen by the Herald shows that over the five years, to the end of December, the number of completed homes was at just over 40,000.
