Police training at California public colleges gets a shakeup following George Floyd murder

George Floyd’s murder nearly a year ago is changing how California’s community colleges and state universities train and educate police officers with urgent emphasis on treating people humanely and using deadly force only as a last resort. “Law enforcement recognizes that we can do better,” Timothy Vu, a former police chief who runs the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West Community College in Orange County said following the conviction last month of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in Floyd’s death. Tito Ortiz shuns COVID rules, makes mark in Huntington Beach

Print Tito Ortiz strolled into a Huntington Beach burger shack, steps from the sand on Pacific Coast Highway, as he did every Sunday. But this time, the employee behind the counter at TK Burger told the recently elected mayor pro tem he wouldn’t be served unless he put on a mask. Angered by the snub, Ortiz pulled out his phone and started recording. “So they won’t let me order unless I have a mask to come in,” the mixed martial arts fighter-turned-politician said in January from outside the eatery, a fixture in the community since 1995. “First time all year that I’ve actually been forced to wear a mask, but I’m not wearing a mask. TK Burger you lose my business. You lose H.B.’s business.”

Cypress students can now enjoy a free, comfortable ride while avoiding parking costs and hassles and contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment. “This program achieves two important goals, helping students understand how convenient and beneficial public transit can be and, at the same time, it helps those students get to their classes and put them on a clearer path to achieving their dreams,” said OCTA Chairman Andrew Do. “It’s great to have Cypress College on board and to help offer a more accessible higher-education syst
