With 2020 in the past and a new year upon us, Nevada County leaders outline their focus for 2021, and what they see as the new year’s biggest challenges and opportunities.
VACCINE ROLLOUT

Just as the COVID-19 pandemic monopolized most of 2020, the rollout of a vaccine and the hope of a return to normalcy it brings will largely be the focus of 2021.
“Our priority will be to continue to protect the community and rebuild the economy and we’ll be working with our community partners to make sure we have safe and equitable vaccine distribution,” Board of Supervisors Chair Heidi Hall said. “We’re not sure yet what that looks like, but I know staff is working on that and taking direction from what the state is planning and then going from there.”

This is the second “miss” for Nevada City police since the Aug. 9 police inaction and failure to protect BLM protesters in Nevada City. Chief Ellis, please explain.

The ink hardly had time to dry on the escrow documents before Gold Country Senior Services’ long-awaited Senior Center became the new COVID-19 testing site.
“We recently closed escrow on the old Summer Thyme’s Bakery & Deli building in Grass Valley,” Executive Director Janeth Marroletti explained. “One week later we were collaborating with Nevada County staff to put part of the premises into use. A new COVID-19 testing site was needed, and this location fit the bill perfectly.”
While the County is renting the dining-room area for testing, renovation assessment continues in the kitchen, as GCSS prepares for the center’s future opening. Located at 231 Colfax Avenue, Grass Valley, this building is already serving Nevada County during a critical time.
