ARLINGTON, Texas, April 20, 2021 /PRNewswire/ North Texas citizens dialing 9-1-1 may soon begin receiving text messages from the 9-1-1 telecommunicator with a link to pinpoint their location. This feature is one of the tools included with a new dispatch map that has been implemented throughout the North Central Texas Emergency Communications District s 13-county region.
The new map provides GIS-based data to 9-1-1 telecommunicators. The map features tools like enhanced location, which sends a link to mobile devices that callers can click to send their enhanced location to the telecommunicator. The map also includes a 9-1-1 chat feature that translates to over 70 languages, and is integrated with applications like What3Words, which pinpoints the location of a mobile device within three meters, and Waze to provide traffic data.
The former Ashe Street Courthouse could soon receive some tender loving care courtesy of funding from the state of Tennessee.
Gov. Bill Lee has again included $5 million in his budget to help fund improvements to the building, an allotment that was originally included in his budget last year before the COVID-19 outbreak put the money on hold.
Johnson City Mayor Joe Wise and City Manager Pete Peterson traveled to Nashville in March to seek funding for the building, which serves as one of the major anchors for the West Walnut Street corridor.
Wise stressed that placement in the governor s budget is just the first step. The budget will now go to the General Assembly for further review.

Those who run the 911 operation systems in Birmingham and Jefferson County were on standby, watching from afar and plotting the next move.
“When they were downtown and moving through the city starting fires, one place they stopped was City Hall,’ said Donnie West, director and CEO of Jefferson County 9-1-1. “They probably did not know that right below them was the main dispatch office.”
