Nationwide, there is controversy over whether employers should be able to require workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Public schools in Iowa are not requiring the vaccination upon returning to school and most hospitals are not either. On July 8, Trinity Health announced all employees are required to get vaccinated or risk termination as the more-contagious delta variant spreads in Iowa and across the country. Trinity Health is the parent company of seven MercyOne hospitals in Iowa and of other clinics associated with those locations. The hospitals are in Clinton, Dubuque, Dyersville, Mason City, New Hampton, Primghar and Sioux City. The company doesn t own some other MercyOne hospital systems, including the one based in Des Moines.
