Kingscliff RPA bringing it all back home – The Echo

One of the Tweed Shire’s oldest residents’ associations is celebrating a long-awaited return to the Kingscliff Community Hall. ‘This is our spiritual home,’ said Peter Newton, President of the Kingscliff Ratepayers and Progress Association (KRPA). ‘Our Association, which has been around in one form or another since 1933, has played a significant part in developing the infrastructure of our wonderful area, including the creation of this iconic building which benefits the whole community,’ said Mr Newton. The Kingscliff Community Hall was originally built by means of a special rate variation, suggested and championed by KRPA, with each Kingscliff ratepayer contributing one shilling extra on their rates to facilitate design and construction.

Push to get more women into NSW local government – The Echo

Women in Tweed Shire with an interest in running for council are invited to attend a free forum to be hosted later this month by the Australian Local Government Women’s Association of NSW. ALGWA NSW is a non-party political national organisation committed to increasing the number of women as elected representatives for their communities, and highlighting the crucial role of women in local government. The organisation hopes to encourage more women than ever to run for council around the state in September’s elections.

Lismore Youth Festival going to be epic – The Echo

Organisers say there will be three days packed with music, performance, art and workshops to entertain and inspire young people. And it’s all free! JK-47 to headline music line-up Kicking off the festival on Wednesday 14 April at NORPA at Lismore City Hall will be Bundjalung hip-hop sensation and 2020 Triple J Unearthed Winner of the Year JK-47, headlining an awesome line-up of music by local acts. On Thursday 15 April and Friday 16 April, The Quad and surrounding buildings will come alive with a half-pipe, skating comps, DJs, comedy, light saber dance offs, and a huge workshop program that offers everything from street art to bush survival.

I recorded a video talk for this conference (here are the Powerpoint slides for this talk). 27 June 2016: Royal Society of Tasmania Winter Series lecture At the University of Tasmania, John Cook presented the 2016 Royal Society of Tasmania Winter Series lecture on  The psychology of climate science denial , chaired by Her Excellency Kate Warner, Governor of Tasmania.
