Subscriber only A man who was already in trouble for using his mobile phone while driving is now facing drugs charges after police searched his car. About 9pm on April 15, Tweed-Byron police observed a man driving a car south along Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South. Darren McCaughey from the Tweed Byron Police District said the 30-year-old was seen to be using his mobile phone as he drove. Police clearly saw the illuminated screen of the phone being held up towards the left side of the male driver s face, he said. Police subsequently pulled this vehicle over to question the driver about this offence.

Subscriber only A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged domestic-related stabbing on the Tweed. Emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing at a rural property on Tyalgum Road in Eungella, west of Murwillumbah, about 9pm on Sunday, February 7 this year. Police will allege they found a 46-year-old woman and 24-year-old man with stab wounds when they arrived at the property, home to the Krishna Village. Both people were flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious conditions. The woman has since been released from hospital and police say she has been receiving ongoing treatment.
