Subscriber only A court order suppressing all details of a troubling North Coast court case has been eased. Mystery had surrounded the case against three people charged with taking or detaining schoolteacher Anthony Stott at a Cudgera Creek property on the Tweed Coast, since a non-publication order covering all details of the case was imposed last May. Police will allege Mr Stott was detained at a rural property before he was fatally struck by a truck on the Pacific Highway nearby on the morning of February 10 last year. Mr Stott was allegedly struck by the semi-trailer about 7am.

Thirteen courts cases since the 2000s and residents of Kingscliff and Tweed Shire Council accept that there is going to be significant disruption to their lives and amenity during the fill and developments of the residential developments at Chinderah. However, it is the severity of the impact of these activities on the community that was up for debate at Tweed Council’s planning meeting last Thursday.

Subscriber only Ballina Shire Council said no to a proposed World Surf League event slated for Lennox Head in an extraordinary meeting held on Wednesday. And there doesn t seem much likelihood of another Far North Coast council vying for the event to be held in their patch. Deputy Premier John Barilaro said on Thursday other regional councils had been in touch with him, hoping to host the event, which was planned for the Easter period. Mr Barilaro has voiced the state government s upset at Ballina s refusal to welcome the tournament, which would have seen Pat Morton Lookout closed off for almost a month.

The popular Tweed Enduro will be held in Pottsville on March 6, and will feature the International Triathlon Union Age Group World Qualifier for both the Long Course Triathlon distance and the Aquabike The world s fastest triathletes travel to the region to compete head-to-head for a chance to be crowned world champion. Athletes at the Tweed Enduro will be looking to prepare before the World Championships come to Townsville in 2022. Event Manager Kevin Pready said the Pottsville Beach course was well equipped to handle the level of competition which comes with an ITU World Qualifier.
