Navan motorists face further road closures

LMFM By Marc O Driscoll Residents in Navan are facing months more of road closures. Ludlow Street will close to traffic from 7am tomorrow morning until 7pm on August 31st. The closure will facilitate works under the 12 million euro Navan 2030 upgrade scheme and will eventually see a change to traffic flow on the street. The next phase of works will also see light sequencing at Market Square, the provision of bus bays on Kennedy Road as well as improvements on Trimgate Street, Old Cornmarket and Bakery Lane.  

Sharkey warns of housing crisis in Dundalk Municipal District over shortage of council owned land banks

LMFM By Ruth O Connell The Sinn Féin councillor says 3.8 acres of land is in accessible and can t be developed for housing A Louth councillor is warning that the local authority is facing a housing crisis in the Dundalk Municipal District, because of a shortage of council-owned land in the area. Sinn Féin s Tomas Sharkey says half of the 4,900 social housing applicants are based in the district, and he claims that single men in particular will be most badly affected because of a lack of suitable accommodation. He says just five acres of Louth County Council land banks are available as 3.8 acres in Kilkerley are inaccessible.

N33 remains closed following serious three vehicle collision

LMFM By Ruth O Connell, Simon Doyle Two people have been killed following a multi-vehicle collision on the N33 in County Louth this morning.  Two cars and a jeep were involved in the crash, which happened on the link road between Ardee and the M1 motorway, at around 8:20am The road remains closed this afternoon, while traffic diversions remain in place, as the scene is to be examined by Forensic Collision Investigators. LMFM By Ruth O Connell The number of ICU patients in public hospitals here with Covid-19 has dropped 15% in the last week Arrivals from 58 countries are now subject to mandatory hotel quarantine after the updated list of high-risk states came into operation this morning. Those travelling to Ireland from places like Israel, Palestine and Andorra must stay in the facilities for 12 nights at their own expense or else run the risk of jail-time or a fine. Discussions are expected to continue this week on following advice from health officials on adding EU countries and the US to the list, despite opposition from some at the Cabinet table.
