Tomahawk Creates Sonic Mobility on New Album

Mike Patton and the cinematic supergroup release fifth LP, Tonic Immobility Share this article: “Pandemic, pajamas, shit, fatigue, dog, California, music.” Mike Patton uses those words a lot during our interview, according to the transcription software that parsed our mid-March phone chat. And somewhere within those words is the genesis of the intense, stunning and diverse 12-song Tomahawk LP Tonic Immobility, which arrives eight years after 2013’s Oddfellows. The band, featuring Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard/Unsemble), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle/Fantômas), Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle, etc.) and John Stanier (Helmet/Battles), is not the primary lineup for any of its members, but the music has a primacy that belies that status.

Two New Teams Join Nike/US Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25

Tue Apr 6 2021 | Laurel Pfahler | High School As we await more teams taking the field for the first time, two new teams join the Nike / US Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25. This week, it’s Loyola Blakefield (Md.) and Ponte Vedra (Fla.) entering the fray. The Cubs opened with a 14-5 win over Westlake last week, entering the ranking at No. 21 as a result. Owen Gaffney led the offense with six goals, while Matt Gottfried was dominant in the faceoff circle to help Loyola gain a possession advantage. Ponte Vedra joins at No. 25 on the heels of a 13-0 start following a 19-2 win over Menendez (Fla.) on March 30 and a 15-6 victory over Episcopal School of Jacksonville (Fla.) last Thursday.

New Jazz News - 4/6/2021

Yazz Ahmed – La Saboteuse (Naim): “Bahraini-British performer, Yazz Ahmed, is transforming what jazz means in 2017. This trumpet and flugelhorn-playing artist has worked with Radiohead and These New Puritans, experiments with electronic effects, and combines sounds from her shared heritage to author a new narrative for the genre. Part of the new wave of artists credited with stirring up the sound, including Kamasi Washington, Yussef Kamaal, Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming, Yazz Ahmed is thrilled by the possibilities of making something new. “I feel like I’m a part of modernising jazz and connecting it with audiences today,” Yazz says. “It’s exciting.” (https://yazzahmed.bandcamp.com/album/la-saboteuse-2) The full release is now available and the mixes and performances are quite wonderful throughout. Tomahawk's Duane Denison: 5 "Gnarliest" Books You Need to Read

, at Revolver In January 2021 Tomahawk dropped Business Casual  a vitriolic cut from the alt-metal supergroup s first new record in eight years, Tonic Immobility. Founding guitarist Duane Denison describes the song as a mocking look at the life of work in America a subject he, more so than many of his rock contemporaries, is intimately familiar with. Sure, he s put in work as a founding member of influential Nineties noise-rock icons Jesus Lizard and logged plenty of hours with rockabilly crew the Legendary Shack Shakers, country royal Hank Williams III and, of course, Tomahawk, which also features Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, etc.) Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) and John Stanier (Helmet).
