This pick was a disaster By thejeffgeorgemullet on Apr 30, 2021, 9:12pm EDT +
Let me preface this by saying I like Ballard, and I believe he’s done a good job so far assembling a team. But I think he got cute tonight; this is a bad pick.especially since he was injured. If he was going to go this direction, he should’ve shored up the offensive line in free agency. Why not trade down? I don’t think a lot of teams were clamoring to draft a guy with a torn Achilles. I’m puzzled as to what the FO is doing; I also don’t think moving Nelson or Smith is a smart option, way too risky imho.

After a record-setting four-year career at the University of Alabama, former Crimson Tide star Najee Harris became the fourth running back drafted in the first round of the NFL draft under Nick Saban, joining the likes of Mark Ingram II, Trent Richardson and Josh Jacobs, on Thursday night.
The Antioch, Calif. product was chosen 24th overall in the 2021 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which feels like a perfect match already.

Todd McShay: Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
Teven Jenkins is tempting here. He’s a mauler on the offensive line, and the Steelers must rebuild that unit from the ground up. Ultimately, I went in a different direction because the lineman class is deep I have more than a dozen in this mock and running back is just as much of a concern. Harris is a powerful back who is nearly impossible to stop between the tackles. The Steelers’ 3.6 yards per carry ranked dead last in the NFL last season, and it doesn’t appear that James Conner is returning, currently leavin

2009: Broncos Trade 1st-Rounder for Alphonso Smith
As a matter of principle, when an 8-8 team offers a future first-round selection for a second-rounder, you take it. The Seattle Seahawks sent the No. 37 pick in the 2009 draft to the Denver Broncos for their top choice in the 2010 draft. Smith lasted one season as a backup in Denver, while Seattle used that first-rounder on Earl Thomas, a three-time All-Pro safety who played a key role on the Super Bowl-winning 2013 team.
2016: 49ers Whiff on Josh Garnett, Miss Chris Jones
In the 2016 draft, the San Francisco 49ers packaged the No. 37 selection with a fourth- and sixth-rounder for the No. 28 pick. They used it on Stanford guard Josh Garnett, who lasted only three years in San Francisco because of a few injury-plagued seasons. The Kansas City Chiefs spent the No. 37 pick on defensive tackle Chris Jones, who made two Pro Bowls in his first five seasons and won a Super Bowl in 2019.
