KEYSER - Keyser city residents with swimming pools will receive a break from the City of Keyser this year as they fill their pools for summer.
Keyser City Council member Jim Hannas brought up the idea during the council meeting Wednesday, proposing that the city only charge pool owners 93 cents per 1,000 gallons used to fill their pools, and to completely waive any charges for sewer during the fill-up period.
“I brought this up to the Water Board,” Hannas said, noting that they were in favor of the change.

PIEDMONT - Voters in the City of Piedmont will be going to the polls Monday, May 10, to return the current mayor and three of five council members to their seats.
Mayor Paula Boggs is running unopposed in the city election, as well as council members Terry LaRue, Rhonda Niland and Greg Harvey.
The other seat coming open this year is currently held by Rick Butler, who chose not to run.
The fifth seat, currently held by finance commissioner Paul Coleman, does not come open this year.
Once the election is over and the unopposed candidates are back in their seats, it will be up to them to appoint someone to fill Butler’s seat.

KEYSER - With 64 current active COVID-19 cases reported by the Mineral County Health Department Wednesday, the county is experiencing yet another uptick in virus cases.
Health department administrator A.Jay Root confirmed Thursday that Mineral County is seeing an increase in cases “across the board,” and the hike cannot necessarily be pinpointed to any one age group, event, or place.
Mostly, he feels, it’s because the county’s numbers had decreased for some time, moving Mineral County to the green level on the West Virginia DHHR COVID color-coded map.
Thursday, however, Mineral County had been moved up to gold and had been hovering between gold and orange all week. The surrounding counties - Hampshire, Hardy and Grant - are all also either gold or orange.
