Bridge phase remains in sight for next week; state fair on track

Indicators of COVID-19 transmission appear to be on track to allow Illinois to transition to move the state to the “bridge phase” of economic reopening sometime next week, Gov. JB Pritzker said Monday. “It feels to me, it looks to me, if you look at the hospital admissions data, like we’re in decent shape and moving exactly as I would hope we would toward the bridge phase,” the governor said at a news conference in Chicago. Pritzker also said the Illinois State Fair in Springfield will go on as planned Aug. 12-22, after a year’s hiatus because of the pandemic, “barring some highly unusual event occurring that would prevent a large gathering. This week s Rewind is another edition of the monthly feature Years Ago. This time all of the short stories, old photos and memories are based on the decade of the 1980 s. A great time in the history of Canadian harness racing and for that matter wherever else it was staged. Headlines for Sunday, April 18th

Cisne High School seniors Grace Milligan and Lauren Grace Conard have been named Illinois State Scholars.  Illinois State Scholars represent approximately the top ten percent of seniors from 726 high schools across the state, and are chosen based on a combination of ACT or SAT scores and sixth semester class rank.  Wayne City High School seniors Kelcee Seymour, Kalyn Meritt, Adam Koker, Jarrett Lewis, Madelyn Caudle and Jaden Boyd have also been named Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 3194 new cases of the coronavirus Saturday and 23 additional deaths, bringing the totals in the state to 1,299,575 cases and 21,653 deaths.  Wayne County has a total of 1723 cases in the county as of Saturday morning with 12 people isolating.  Reports from around the area Saturday indicated one of the deaths was from Marion County and one death in Alexander County, with the remainder in the Chicago area.
