The fire at the Dzukou Valley, a popular trekking and adventure destination, started a week ago. Within 24 hours from December 31, the IAF engaged four choppers for the fire-fighting mission following a request from the Nagaland government.

Turbulence because of terrain, controllability of chopper with 3,500 litres of water in a specialised bucket dangling from a 23-ft cable and pinpointing target for spraying it have affected the operation to douse a wildfire on the Manipur-Nagaland border.

Dzukou Valley (Nagaland): An assistant sub-inspector, Nongthombam Binoy Meetei of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), was found dead inside a base camp in the hills near the Dzukou Valley on Tuesday morning in Manipur. He was deployed at the valley for the ongoing firefighting operation.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh took to Twitter to share his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Kohima: Indian Air Force (IAF) resumed its operation with Mi-17 helicopters equipped with Bambi Bucket to douse the wildfire at Dzukou Valley near Kohima on Sunday.
According to media report four Mi-17 helicopters have been deployed at Dimapur and Rangapahar to tame the massive fire of Dzukou Valley which caught on December 29 last year. Indian Air Force helicopters resumed Bambi Bucket operations today towards dousing the fire in Dzukou Valley near Kohima. Sixty personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed on Saturday at the wildfire site at Dzukou valley which lies on the Manipur-Nagaland border, according to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

According to reports, three helicopters equipped with Bambi bucket have been deployed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to fight the wildfire.
IAF Mi-17 V5 helicopter was deployed for the fire-fighting mission at the valley near Kohima, while a C-130J Hercules aircraft airlifted the nine-tonne load with 48 NDRF personnel from Guwahati to Dimapur. IAF is deploying three more helicopters equipped with Bambi Bucket, informed IAF via Twitter.
