Dunleer s footpaths have become so bad that wheelchair users are now unable to access certain parts of the town.
Major concerns have been expressed for months about stretches at St Brigid s Terrace, the Barn Road and the Ardee Road.
The Ardee Road has now gotten so bad, it is proving unbearable for many local residents as it s a trip hazard.
Cathaoirleach of Louth CC, Dolores Minogue says action must be taken.
One local woman has written to her stating she is almost unable to use the Ardee Road. She brings her mother out in her wheelchair, but it is now too dangerous.
The main awards may have gone to the north of the county but there was plenty to celebrate in the south of the county when the results of Louth Looking Good 2020 were announced virtually last Thursday night (10th).
Leading the prizewinners were Monasterboice Tidy Towns who won the Adjudicator’s Award for their comprehensive, pollinator friendly work programme while committee member Kathleen Smyth was Runner Up in the prestigious Environmentalist of the Year Award.
Killineer Cottages, always among the winners, came second in its category this year rounding off a terrific performance for marvellous Monasterboice.
The fishing village of Clogherhead was also highly placed on the winners podium winning the Most Improved Award with the adjudicators expressing amazement at the transformation in the village in the twelve months since their last visit while neighbouring villages of Sandpit and Termonfeckin were acknowledged with Special Merit Awards for their ever improving work program
The move has been taken to protect the wall from fatal damage.
The issue was raised by Cllr John Sheridan at the area council meeting, when he asked for an update about the structure.
The council confirmed that a chainlink would be added to the bollards.
Cllr Dolores Minogue said that funding had been ringfenced for specialist works on the structure and it would need a conservation officer involved.
It is hoped the works can be done in 2021, along with a wall at Darver graveyard.

Cathaoirleach of Louth CC, Dolores Minogue, has praised the work carried out at Cherrybrook in Ardee. It s great to see the potholes gone, she stated. I remember we brought the minister to the estate some years ago in a bid to secure action, but I m glad that the work has been finally done, she added. A lot of people raised this estate down the years and it s good to get a result.
Cherrybrook residents have had to endure a torrid time with poor roads and footpaths. While the road improvements have been carried out, this is an old estate and the footpaths need attention. I ll continue to press for funding for those works.
