ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) A South Carolina man is in custody accused of slaying his father.
The St. George Police Department said retired attorney James A. Bell, 76, was found shot in the head twice in the early morning hours of Jan. 1, news outlets reported . The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office pronounced Bell dead at 9:30 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine an official cause of death, authorities said.

During the investigation, officers found that while Bell was asleep in a chair in the living room of his home, his 48-year-old son, Jason, allegedly shot him before returning upstairs. He later surrendered to police at the St. George Police Department where he was arrested.

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coronerâs Office says a 16-year-old died Monday in a head-on collision.
Matthew Eric Thornton, of Ruffin, was killed in the crash on Highway 17 Alternate near Clubhouse Road, approximately 10 miles south of Summerville, Coroner Paul Brouthers said.

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a portion of Highway 17A was blocked for hours after crews worked to clear the scene of a deadly crash.
The crash happened on Highway 17A just before Clubhouse Road at 8:42 a.m., Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said.
The crash involves a dump truck and a 1995 Fort Thunderbird, he said. The dump truck was going northbound on Highway 17A when the Thunderbird, traveling soutbound, crossed the center line and struck the dump truck head on.
