At the New England Carpenters Training Center on Dorchester Avenue on Saturday morning, Gilbane Co. construction workers were hard at work sawing, sanding, and assembling some 40 wooden desks that will be donated in support of after-school programs at Mather Elementary School and the Church of the Nazarene in Dorchester.
Gilbane, which has partnered with Rebuilding Together since its inception 30 years ago, dispatched around 20 workers to the project after the Carpenters union offered its space as a staging area.

For years, residents have come to know Dorchesterâs Fields Corner as a place where newcomers can find a home. From Vietnamese to Haitian Creole to Spanish to Portuguese, signs in the store windows and chatter on the street reflect a kaleidoscopic neighborhood like few others in Boston.
Yet a few years ago, when the Boston Planning & Development Agency launched a process that could reshape this part of Dorchester, it hung signs inviting people to public meetings in just one language: English.

The Zoning Board of Appeal on Tuesday approved two new housing developments - one with room for restaurant - a couple blocks apart in the Glover s Corner stretch of Dorchester Avenue.
In the larger project, on two connected lots, one at 1121 Dorchester Ave., the other around the corner on Savin Hill Avenue, developer Joey Arcari is proposing a live/work/eat development that would feature a four-story, 21-unit residential building with roughly 5,000 square feet of ground-floor space for a restaurant on Dorchester Avenue, and a three-story, three-unit building on Savin Hill Avenue. Three of the units would be marketed as affordable.

Now that all Massachusetts residents above 16 are eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine, a number of health center-operated sites and pharmacy locations in Dorchester and Mattapan are accepting appointments, with vaccine supplies for doses depending on the location.
The state website lists Russell Auditorium and Morningstar Baptist Church as healthcare locations. Walgreens locations on Morton Street, River Street, Gallivan Boulevard, and Dorchester Avenue are listed as having appointment availability, as are CVS locations on Blue Hill Ave. (in Dorchester and Mattapan), and on Washington Street. The South Bay Stop and Shop is taking appointments through its website, as is the Osco Pharmacy at Star Market on Morrissey Boulevard.
