BCP Council has denied claims it promised hundreds of thousands of pounds to Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council should a controversial development be approved. It had been suggested all the overage clause for the Jesmond Avenue site had been pledged to the parish council, raising concerns it could influence the decision on plans for the site. But this has been dismissed, with the council saying“no decision had been made and that the money would be spent on projects benefitting the entire conurbation. BCP Council inherited the overage clause, agreed between Dorset County Council and landowner Boyland and Son, on its creation in 2019.
As Trinity College Cambridge divests, UK council pensions still hold £10bn in fossil fuels
Freedom of information requests by environmental campaigners have revealed that UK local government pensions held almost £10bn in fossil fuel companies last year, despite the trend towards climate emergency declarations.
The requests reveal the pension investment trends of more than 80 UK councils
The results of the requests, which pertained to investments held in the 2019/20 financial year, have been published today (23 February) by Friends of the Earth and Platform in the form of a report.
The organisations sent requests to 98 local authorities and 85 provided information. Collectively, these 85 councils held £9.9bn of investments in fossil fuels through their pension schemes – the equivalent of £1,450 for each person accessing a local government pension scheme in the UK.
Having had my NHS letter on Saturday I tried to make my appointment online as instructed. The only available choices of venue were in Yeovil, Poole, Boscombe or Exeter, all 30 plus miles away and not in the Dorset County Council area. Why is this? Is it the NHS responsibility or the local council to provide somewhere more local? There are many local venues belonging to councils that are closed at this time that would have suitable facilities (i.e. parking, toilets, various entrances and exits and indoor space). Three I can think of straight away for the Weymouth area are Redlands Sports Centre, Moonfleet Indoor Bowls Club and Pavilion Theatre. Other towns will have their own buildings.
