Episode 11: Can we ensure the climate has a future after the corona-crisis?

Guy Taylor, activism manager at Global Justice Now is joined by Nnimmo Bassey, a leading environmental activist and author in Nigeria, Alice Picard, activist and board member of ATTAC France and Danni Paffard, head of organising at Green New Deal UK, and part of the Build Back Better campaign.
This fall, two Longhorns will enter the McCombs School of Business with a unique support system. Todd Maclin, BBA ’78, Life Member, a retired executive with a storied career at JPMorgan Chase, along with his wife and children, has created a Texas Exes scholarship designed to give Black students from the Dallas/Fort Worth area access to the personal and professional network the family has built together.
Motivated by the distressing news cycle and national conversation about race, the Maclins started talking last summer about what they could do to help. The result was an endowment large enough to cover tuition and fees annually for two students, and a commitment to be there for them however they could phone calls, setting up lunch dates with influential family friends, and introductions to industry leaders who could offer advice. When we reached two finalists for best overall photo, we realized that Susan Cook had taken them both. “Luck and context play a big part in photography,” Cook says. “This day was a visit to Dera Village Retreat near Jaipur in northern India, which included a ride in wooden carts pulled by camels. We passed through villages of the local Meena tribespeople.” Cook snapped this photo from the back of a cart. The judges agreed on its exceptional tone, story, and depth.
“Some photos just stand out and are clearly more interesting than others,” Cook says. “This one had so many elements of the environment of India and its people. I usually put my favorite images in a book after I return home from a Flying Longhorns trip. I used this one on the cover.”
