NEW BEDFORD Valentine’s Day is all about the romance, but a romantic dinner date during a pandemic is obviously difficult. Rest assured, several SouthCoast restaurants are offering safe indoor and take-out options.
“I expect this year people will want to do something,” said Karl Pelletier, owner of Tipsy Toboggan in Fall River. “It might be that one special day they do go out to eat,” he added.
Tipsy Toboggan is teaming up with Rustic Rose Floral Design and Dunny s Fall River to offer a romantic outdoor experience in their garden area. It will feature Rustic Roses’ floral designs and flower carts with bouquets and small arrangements. Dunny s will contribute desserts for pickup, to-go or to enjoy there after lunch or dinner.
Dorothy Cox s Candies Inc. in Wareham and the Creative Development Child Center also known as Sandy’s School in East Wareham will each receive grants of $75,000 through the Covid-19 Small Business Grant Program.
Sandy Boucher, who owns Sandy’s School and has been in the childcare business for 35 years, said it was great to get the grant because she wants to keep her business running through the covid crisis.
“When people go back to work, they need childcare centers open,” she said. “We’ve been fortunate to have survived, and with the grant we’ll survive more.”
Dorothy Cox’s Candies makes and sells a variety of sweets, including things like chocolate, peanut brittle, taffy, ice cream bars and more. Dorothy Cox’s Candies has a location in Fairhaven, but the grant will support the company’s factory and store located in Wareham at 8 Kendrick Rd.

BOSTON – Two Wareham businesses and one in Marion have each received $75,000 COVID-19 Small Business grants.
They are Dorothy Cox’s Candies Inc., and the Creative Development Child Center in Wareham, and Accel Materials Inc. in Marion.
Shirley Cox said the grant’s receipt was welcome news for the candy maker that is just eight years shy of reaching 100 years in operation. The company is just coming off the holiday candy rush, and was regrouping. The company hired part-timers to help meet the orders, and currently has about 17 employees. It was down to only four to five over the summer. In the past, it’s had up to 40 employees. The company, located at 8 Kendrick Road, sells retail and wholesale, as well as filling corporate orders.
