Mr Riordan highlighted a 12-month £180m transport capital programme where £20m is being spent every five weeks on projects at Regent Street, the East Leeds Orbital and Leeds Station, which will be a major hub for Northern Powerhouse Rail and HS2 plans.
He also pointed to active city centre schemes including the new TV and film studios in Holbeck and developments at the Wellington Place business park. There are also plans to upgrade City Square and Leeds General Infirmary plus major regeneration work at the Southbank and the Innovation District.
“It all adds up to a really exciting set of developments,” he said.
PEOPLE in Leeds are being urged to follow Covid rules as the latest case rate figures show that nearly three quarters are the more transmissible UK variant. In a tweet today Leeds City Council CEO Tom Riordan said the city s case rate was down again to 286.1 per 100,000 and positivity was down to 11.7. But he added: With the UK variant making up close to three quarters of these cases, the need to stay in, keep our distance and get vaccinated when called has never been greater. In a tweet yesterday Mr Riordan said almost 80,000 people had received their first vaccine jab in Leeds.
RATES of Covid-19 are continuing to fall in Leeds - but people in the city are being warned not to drop their guard. On Thursday Leeds City Council CEO Tom Riordan tweeted: Leeds case rate down further to 285.3 per 100k (from 291.2), which is good progress. This is still a relatively high case rate and pace of reduction is slowing though, so we need to continue staying in and keeping our distance. Vaccine roll out going well but we can’t drop our guard. A week ago, on Friday, January 22, the rates for Leeds stood at 322.8 per 100,000.

In a tweet on Tuesday the city council s CEO Tom Riordan said: Leeds cases stable at 332.2 per 100k (from 332.6). Positivity down to 12.5%. Over-60s rate up to 223.6 per 100k. Hospital admissions still rising and case rate forecast to rise again tomorrow. We’re making progress but much more to do. Please keep your distance and stay home if you can. The figure had risen to 355 per 100,000 before beginning to fall over the weekend. On January 7the council said cases of Covid19 were continuing to rise, with 316.8 cases per 100,000 and a positivity rate of 14.1 per cent. Key workers were asked to avoid sending their children to school if possible as Leeds faced a critical situation.
