TEARS were shed and celebrations had as the Warrington Guardian Lockdown Heroes awards took place. It was the first time the Guardian has hosted a virtual ceremony, but it was an emotional evening as we presented a total of 10 awards. There was also a surprise special recognition award for Prof Simon Constable, chief executive of Warrington and Halton Hospitals, for his efforts leading his teams through the Covid pandemic. You can read more from Prof Constable in next week s Warrington Guardian, and in the meantime find out why he was nominated by his staff by watching the video above. Dr Hilary Jones was the perfect host of the event, in association with Warrington Borough Council and Warrington Hospital, as he helped to celebrate and recognise the incredible efforts in our community over what has been such a challenging year.
It gave us cause to party and communities came together to toast the happy couple across Colchester and Tendring. Here are some of our favourite pictures, putting the spotlight on celebrations in Colchester, Wivenhoe, Mersea Island, Clacton, Frinton, St Osyth, Manningtree and Elmstead Market. At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income.
In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However,
rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.
To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thanks you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time

Gold at $US1800 back on the table
Vesna Poljak
Broker Macquarie has canvassed the possibility of gold at $US1800 an ounce if it can consolidate above the $US1765 an ounce level, which is optimistic for Perseus Mining, one of the gold juniors it rates outperform .

Perseus is expected to produce at the top-end of its guidance range in the second half, on the broker s estimates. Macquarie also favours Aurelia Metals and Bellevue Gold among the juniors.
From a macro perspective, Macquarie thinks the decline in bond yields and rally in gold is unlikely to be sustainable without a deterioration in economic data. Next week s FOMC meeting seems far too early for increased taper talk but the key question remains at what point does data prove sufficient for the market to start pricing tapering.
