The Madison County Board approved three new members during a special meeting late Friday, filling three vacancies on the board. Valarie Doucleff in District 6 Godfrey, Mike Babcock in District 14 Wood River, and Terry Eaker in District 15 in Bethalto.
Doucleff and Eaker were approved unanimously, while the vote was 19-4 in favor of Babcock’s approval. Babcock is currently the Wood River Township Supervisor and ran unsuccessfully in recent elections for the Illinois House and the Illinois Senate. Doucleff is a teacher in the Alton School District and Eaker owns a business in Bethalto. Both Babcock and Eaker were new names proposed by Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler, who last week had his original candidates for the three vacancies shot down by the board. Members of both parties said Prenzler did not give the board enough time to consider the candidates and study their backgrounds. Doucleff was the lone

The 60 day window to fill two vacancies on the Madison County Board will be here at the end of the week, so a special meeting to appoint new members is expected to be called for Friday. County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler last week nominated potential replacements for the two vacancies created following the election, plus another that had since come up, but those nominations were shot down.
The reason appears to be due to a lack of input from the board, and in particular the members that are being replaced. Tom McRae of the 14th district and Ray Wesley from the 6th resigned after McRae was elected circuit clerk and appointed Wesley to the position of deputy clerk. Chrissy Dutton-Wiley resigned from her 15th District seat upon getting married and moving out of the district.

EDWARDSVILLE The Madison County Board will meet at 4 p.m. Friday to consider replacing three members.
According to an agenda posted on the county website, the meeting will be held for “reconsideration of Appointments to County Board Districts 6, 14 and 15 OR appointment of County Board Members for Districts 6, 14 and 15.”
The prospective members were not named in the original agenda, but Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler identified them early Wednesday afternoon, and the agenda was later amended to include the names. They include one previous nominee, and two new names.
The action comes after the board rejected three recommendations by Prenzler at last week’s regular board meeting.

EDWARDSVILLE A special meeting of the Madison County Board is expected to be called for Friday to consider adding three new members after Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler received Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine’s response to legal questions about the appointments.
At last week’s meeting, county board members overwhelmingly rejected proposed replacements for three members who had resigned. At that meeting Haine said at least two of the seats must be filled by this Friday to meet county ordinances.
Prenzler said he received a reply from Haine Monday afternoon and plans to set a special meeting for Friday.
