Young sailors awarded funding by Mary Peters Trust by Emma Blee 8 Jan 11:38 GMT
Five young sailors have been given a unique chance to boost their training and skills after they were awarded funding from the Mary Peters Trust.
Lauren McDowell from Dundonald, Dan McGaughey from Newtownards, Erin Mclwaine from Newcastle, Dan Palmer from Bangor and Tom Coulter from Ballymena, are the worthy recipients of the awards. They are among 70 young competitors from 20 sports to receive the funding.
Lady Mary, who won pentathlon gold at the 1972 Munich Olympics, founded her Trust soon afterwards to aid the development of young, home grown, sporting talent, and in the intervening years has aided many thousands to achieve their sporting goals.

CHEYENNE – State lawmakers advanced a bill Tuesday [December 22] to renew the funding model for Wyoming’s K-12 education system but included both a $100 million cut and a provision that could eventually lead to an increase to the state’s sales and use tax.
The Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration, made up of several high-profile lawmakers, held a two-day meeting [last] week as part of the recalibration process, which the Legislature goes through every five years to review what constitutes an equitable education system in the state.
During meetings earlier this year, legislators heard from hired consultants, who provided a rundown of recommendations for an effective, cost-based funding model for the state’s schools.

CHEYENNE After state lawmakers decided last month to delay most of the 2021 general session beyond January due to COVID-19 concerns, plans for the 66th Wyoming Legislature are still up in the air, with a couple main options being considered by legislative leadership.
Lawmakers on the Management Council, which includes chamber leaders from both parties, decided during a meeting last month to postpone the session, as legislative staff raised concerns about the challenging logistics of holding a standard, in-person session starting in January.
A few aspects required by the Wyoming Constitution, such as the swearing in of new lawmakers, the adoption of rules and the delivery of an address from Gov. Mark Gordon, will carry on as planned Jan. 12, with lawmakers planning to convene virtually for those events.
