Softball: Thornton Academy ends Scarborough’s long streak in first game of DH

SCARBOROUGH The winning streak ended for Scarborough High’s softball team Friday night. And the Red Storm breathed a sigh of relief, then got right back to winning.
Thornton Academy halted Scarborough’s 66-game winning streak in the first game of a Class A South softball heavyweight doubleheader, scoring six runs in the eighth inning to win 9-3. Jess Dow had the big hit, a grand slam that broke a 3-3 tie. It was Scarborough’s first loss since June 14, 2016 – 9-7 to Biddeford in the Class A South final.

SCARBOROUGH Scarborough’s softball team believes it has something to prove this spring, and the Red Storm made a powerful statement in their first big test Thursday afternoon at Kippy Mitchell Sports Complex.
Hosting unbeaten and highly-touted Gorham in an early season showdown, Scarborough shook off a couple shaky innings, then took control the way it always does, with strong pitching, flawless defense and relentless hitting.
The committee members will provide feedback on the state’s debt collection licensing program.

Several members of ACA International have been appointed to the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation’s (DFPI) new debt collection advisory committee.
The seven-member committee will provide critical feedback to the DFPI as it creates its debt collection licensing program.
The diverse group includes a consumer advocate and representatives from the debt collection, debt buying, third-party collection, and collection law industries, according to a news release from the DFPI.
ACA members on the committee include Scott Hyman, attorney with Severson & Werson PC; Mark Naiman, president of Absolute Resolutions Corp.; Cindy Yaklin, president of States Recovery Systems Inc. and the California Association of Collectors Inc. This question came in before Reece Walsh was named at five-eighth in Tuesday s team lists, which answered the first part of the question. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is named at fullback this week, and he and Walsh may split their time between fullback, five-eighth, and defending on the wing like they did last week.
The upshot is the Warriors are clearly keen to give Walsh some game time this season, and after scoring 45 first up against the Storm he is set to make some quick cash if he can stick around for another five or six matches.

1. Scarborough: For the first time in forever, Coach Tom Griffin doesn’t have a pitcher returning with an inning of varsity experience. But if there’s a team that can overcome that inexperience, it’s the Red Storm, who have won 60 consecutive games and the last three Class A state championships. Senior catcher Sylvia Foley (.435), senior shortstop Mollie Verreault (.354, 20 runs), junior utility player Katie Roy (.537, 18 RBI, SMAA second team pick) and junior first baseman A.J. Swett (.373, 15 RBI) lead the offense.
