Michael Edward Franzone, 26, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2020 at his home in Bradner, Ohio. Although young, Michael led a full life which included so many close friends and family members who loved him dearly. He was a graduate of Lakota High School and Sussex County Community College (Newton, NJ) where he was awarded an Associateâs Degree in Criminal Justice, and was also the Student Council President.
Growing up in Bradner, Ohio, young Mike enjoyed practicing karate, little league baseball, cross country and track and field. He was also a member of the CLEAR Program, a Girl Scout Brother, helped with Pass it Along, and was the Assistant Coach for Newton Soccer. Mike appreciated spending time with his friends and coworkers, listening to music, and in particular, the very short but special friendship he developed with Lauro Quintero and his family. Outdoor ice rinks are always available in Rochester for hockey players and ice skaters each winter and this season the venues could get some added use.

A strong system that crossed British Columbia earlier this week and is on its way out of the eastern Prairies brought heavy snowfall over a good chunk of Western Canada. By Tuesday morning, Kananaskis Country, Alta. received 70 cm of snow, with 40+ cm accumulating in other high-elevation areas. Even Calgary found itself buried in 20-40 cm so far.
That had a major effect on travel across the country, with parts of the Trans-Canada Highway down to one lane in some areas. In Calgary, more than 50 collisions, some involving injuries, were reported on the roads between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
WATERLOO â The first COVID-19 vaccines arrived in the Cedar Valley on Thursday at UnityPoint and MercyOne hospitals in Waterloo, and those taking care of COVID-19 patients were the first to roll up their sleeves.
UnityPoint-Health Waterloo Chief Medical Officer Dr. Russell Adams, also a practicing physician, unbuttoned his white lab coat to get the first shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the first known vaccination in the Cedar Valley.
Adams and other UnityPoint providers agreed to be vaccinated on camera to show the public the vaccine is safe, effective and an important part of stopping the coronavirus spread in Black Hawk County.
