The Beckham County Health Department along with the City of Elk City appears to be setting the standard on how to distribute the Covid-19 vaccine.
According to Elk City City Manager Tom Ivester, the health department has utilized the Elk City Civic Center on more than one occasion to be a distribution point of the vaccine, and he says it appears this will be a weekly occurrence.
Another weekly distribution location in western Oklahoma is at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center on the Weatherford campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Those vaccination events are conducted every Friday as well.

The turf project at the 5-plex baseball and softball fields in Elk City’s Ackley Park West and the baseball field in Ackley Park has officially been paid for.
Sort of.
During the latest Elk City Commissioner’s meeting the commission approved the final pay application to Hellas Construction, the company that the city had bought the material from and who installed the turf. The budgeted item was for just under $275,000.
However, City Manager Tom Ivester says the city will put a hold on the check.
The other bill was for damaged lights that Hellas allegedly damaged during the construction process. Ivester said that Hellas was going to deduct the cost of repair off the final bill. He says he wants to make sure that that deduction was indeed honored.

An un-mapped underground drainage pipe at the CAPPs Project Indoor Activity Center construction site in Elk City will cost the city just over $66,000 to relocate and replace.
City Manager Tom Ivester told the City Commission recently it was discovered during the dirt work portion of the project, and says the $66,116 price tag was the cheapest option the city could take.
