Covid and music: A year without gigs for independent venues

But it s now been 10 months without gigs for independent venues because of coronavirus, which has devastated the industry. The last year has been really tough. We haven t opened at all during this whole period since March, Dom Fraser - director of The Boileroom in Guildford tells Radio 1 Newsbeat. She s been running the venue for 15 years. This week is Independent Venue Week, and her venue had a full, socially distanced line-up booked in - but that got cancelled at the last minute. According to the Music Venues Trust - over 400 Grassroots music venues in the UK are at imminent risk of being closed permanently.

The first half of the image shared to Italdesign’s Twitter page marks the 40th anniversary since the original’s debut. Importantly, a silhouetted sneak peek below shows a modern reincarnation with classic gullwing doors and DMC badge.  We may not have to wait long for the car’s reveal either. The caption hints at an unveiling in the near future. DeLorean DMC-12 turns 40 this year. What a better way to celebrate an icon of automotive history than a sneak peek of the (near) future? Published: 18 January 2021 ► Loosely based on a Toyota Prius ► Having all four windows open  is best If there’s one thing we learned through 2020, it s that confined spaces are particularly dangerous for airborne disease transmission. A new study into the effectiveness of open car windows reveals just how useful the method is at keeping SARS-CoV-2 – and other airborne diseases – at bay. Researchers at Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, used computer simulations to track airflow through a car’s cabin, providing potential best-case strategies to reduce the risk of transmitting diseases through aerosols (which are tiny particles that linger in the air, thought to be the mode of transmission for Covid-19).
