Its 4am and freezing. I am tip toeing downstairs so as not to wake the rest of the house. England are playing India in the first test - compulsive viewing nurtured by my Dad, who was blind from the time I was 12 years old.
Dad loved listening to the cricket on the radio, and though he moaned big time about Johnners, Blofeld and Trevor Bailey bantering about cake, secretly I think he loved all that guff. Anyhow - here I am at this ungodly hour, Dad will be snickering up in heaven at me creeping about encumbered by a passion he passed on.
John,
I think it was West Brom in the Cup, 1974, Big crowd too. They were Division 2 at the time.
We drew 0-0 and they beat us in the replay at the Hawthorns 1-0.
I think it might have been our first Sunday fixture, Lords Day Observance Act and all, and probably because of the Miners Strike as you say. I wrote it down on a piece of paper which I must have thrown away, I would be grateful if you could let me know what it is again, I m hoping to use it once again in the near future. I m pleased to learn that you consider my article enjoyable.

Vijay Eswaran and PJ City FC Pay a Heartfelt Tribute to the Late Diego Maradona By Pablo Luna / Wednesday, 06 Jan 2021 11:45AM
Argentina’s Diego Armando Maradona was a legend, considered by scores of fans around the world to be the greatest midfielder of all time. Many said this GOAT ranked right up there with legends like Zinedine Zidane, Sir Tom Finney, and Garrincha, affectionately known as “Anjo de Pernas Tortas” (Angel with Bent Legs).
He was agile, had incomparable control of the ball, and according to PJ City owner Vijay Eswaran, “legs built like tree trunks.” But with all the strength, powerful swivel kicks, and a passion for the sport, he faced suspensions for substance abuse and arrests for drug possession. After two decades of dominating the playing field, he turned his passion for coaching.
