Kayla Itsines’ Sweat app has sold to US fitness tech company iFIT for a reported $400 million, bringing the app she founded from her Adelaide garden to an even broader global audience.
Sweat was founded in 2015 by Itsines and then-partner Tobi Pearce, following the launch of a fitness e-book. It has since grown into a fitness sensation, reaching a community of more than 50 million people across its social channels and app.
Now a team of 13 trainers offer some 5,000 workouts and 26 exercise programs. The app is available in eight different languages, across 155 countries.
Itsines later said she regretted the “bikini body” title and when the pair launched an app in late 2015 they rebranded it Sweat: With Kayla. According to
The Cut, the Sweat app has been downloaded 30 million times in the past six years. Itsines has 13 million followers on Instagram, while Sweat itself has nearly 1 million. Pearce and Itsines ended their romantic relationship nearly a year ago, but remain business partners. They have a daughter, Arna Leia, born in May 2019. On Instagram, Itsines assured her followers that while iFit had purchased the company, “Sweat will remain a stand-alone brand and I will still be your trainer and all of our programmes are not changing or going anywhere”.
