Glaude Jr of Princeton University follows the increasingly politicised journey of the poet of the revolution James Baldwin, in the years from The Fire Next Time in 1963 to No Name in the Street in 1972. This was the time of the Civil Rights Movement, when attempts to force a confrontation with the truth of America s racism was answered with the murders of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr.

In recognition of Black History Month, Princeton University will host virtual conversations, classes, exhibits and educational resources that recognize the lives and achievements of Black people in the context of Princeton’s and the country’s history. UM Hosting Variety of Events Throughout Black History Month February 1, 2021 536 Eddie S. Glaude Jr., a distinguished scholar of African American studies at Princeton University, will deliver the keynote address for Black History Month observances Feb. 9 at the University of Mississippi. Glaude’s virtual address, “Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own,” begins at 5 p.m. on Zoom. To register and receive the link, click here. Baldwin was an American novelist, playwright, essayist, poet and activist. His essays, collected in “Notes from A Native Son,” explore intricacies of racial, sexual and class distinctions in the Western society of the United States during the mid-20th century.
