A girl was transported to a hospital in very critical condition after being shot in the head Saturday in Minneapolis.
Police spokesperson John Elder said the shooting was reported at approximately 8:32 p.m., with a preteen girl struck in the head by a bullet on the 2200 block of Llion Avenue North in north Minneapolis.
Officers arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the child in a squad vehicle to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Police are investigating the belief that a red Ford pulled into the alley and a shooter fired from the car at a home. Elder said several children were playing outside in the backyard at the time of the shooting.

The weekend proved to be unusually busy and dangerous for Minneapolis police, three of whom were injured after responding to incidents around the city early Saturday morning.
According to a media briefing from MPD, the first incident happened at about 1:00 a.m. in the Uptown area, where a group of drag racers were engaging in exhibition driving and causing damage to the roadways and endangering the personal safety to those in the area.
When officers showed up to the scene, the suspects turned their aggression towards law enforcement, throwing rocks and other items at them, MPD says.

Authorities initially had few details about the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. on the 600 block of 23rd Avenue Northwest. A witness reported several gunshots and saw a car crash into a utility pole before two males ran off, leaving bullet holes in buildings and a nearby vehicle.
Investigators now believe the entire incident began with a verbal exchange between the driver of a white BMW and two men walking nearby. According to the police department, during this exchange, both men on foot began to shoot at the individual in the vehicle.

A 27-year-old Bloomington man was killed earlier this week when he crashed into a bridge support on Interstate 94 in St. Paul.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Charles Thomas Mitchell was traveling east on I-94 when he left the roadway and hit the bridge support at Cleveland Avenue just after 7 p.m. on May 11.
Mitchell was transported to the hospital, where he was later declared dead.
The State Patrol says alcohol was involved in the crash.
